Health & Nutrition
Health and Nutrition have recently become an
interest of mine. My attitude used to be one of "We are all going
to die anyway, might as well enjoy life". But having children
has changed that, I want there to be a quality of life, one that comes
through having good nutrition and doing the best that you can through
healthy eating. With all the fad diets that have popped up and
many people pushing many things as healthy...I decided to go to the
Bible as my basis.
One of my favorite magazines to read (free/donation) is Above
Rubies...see the link on my home page. Nancy Campbell's,the
editor of the magazine , daughter Serene Allison had been writing many
articles about eating raw, so I ordered her cookbook Rejuvenate Your Life.
A lot of what she had to say made sense, I just couldnt handle the idea
of eating raw 100%, but it got me on the road eating healthier.
So I continued my search for a Bible based diet that included meat.
Since reading through the book of Leviticus and trying to make sense of
it wasnt very appealing to me I was excited when Jordan Rubin came out
with "The Maker's Diet". This book led me to Sally Fallon's
"Nourishing Traditions" which helps to incorporate an old fashioned
health diet. I highly recommend all three of these books!
There are a lot of dangers in processed food, foods whose natural forms
have been changed, have had their nutrients bleached or cooked out
(including milk). It's not that we can't ever enjoy some of these
items, but as a regular intake...it is pretty dangerous.
Refined Sugar is one of the worst things that you can eat. According to Ann Gittleman in her book "Get the Sugar Out",
If all Americans knew the dangers of sugar, it would be
withdrawn from our list of food additives.
Refined sugar acts more like a drug that our bodies need to detoxify
rather than a nutrient supplying food.
Refined sugar is in fact nutrient-less.
Important nutrients such as chromium, manganese, cobalt, copper, zinc,
and magnesium are stripped away in sugar refining, our bodies actually have to
use their own mineral reserves just to digest it."
I highly recommend this book
it has a lot of good information of minimizing, limiting and exchanging
refined sugars for natural sugars..
I also find herbs very interesting and am gradually replacing the over
the counter remedies with herbals teas and hopefully soon (if I can
remember to pick up some glycerine) herbal tinctures.
More books that I recommend:
Power Juice, Super Drinks - by
The Herbal ABC by Steve Horne
The Healing Miracles of Coconut Oil by Bruce Fife
Bread for Life, Volumes 1 and 2 by Beth Holland
Herbal Antibiotics - by Stephen
Discovered this link on a blogging site I
visited. It is a great website about where the meat you eat comes
from! Be sure to check it out. The Meatrix
